Control cycle is the time period defining how often discrete time based controller is being updated or calculated.

Controller update frequency should be significantly higher than the desired analog bandwidth of the system. I.e. torque controller of drives may run at 20 kHz (50µs cycle time) rate to yield torque bandwidth of 3 kHz.
