Connecting VSD-E/XE drive to fieldbus
An easy and low cost fieldbus connection is possible to nearly any network (including EtherCAT, CANopen, PROFIBUS, etc). This is made possible by modular fieldbus components made by automation companies such as Beckhoff. Connecting VSD-E/XE to fieldbus control there is generally three ways:
1. Pulse/direction control
Use motion controlled pulse output modules that will allow controlling drive in point-to-point mode and velocity control mode for multiaxis NC operation. Suggested components are:
- Beckhoff KL2521 pulse train output terminal (one needed per axis)
- Beckhoff KL2124 digital output for Enable/Clearfaults signals (one needed per two axis)
2. PWM velocity or torque control
VSD-E/XE PWM input can be used for precise velocity or torque control. For position control this option requires realtime NC control with encoder feedback over fieldbus. Suggested components are:
- Beckhoff KL2124 digital output for Enable/Clearfaults signals (one needed per two axis)
- Beckhoff KL2502-3020 2 channel PWM output terminal (one needed per two axis)
- Beckhoff KL5101 Incremental encoder terminal with additional digital input for fault monitoring (one needed per axis)
3. Analog +/-10V velocity or torque control
VSD-E/XE analog input can be used for precise velocity or torque
control. For position control this option requires realtime NC control
with encoder feedback over fieldbus. Suggested components are:
- Beckhoff KL2124 digital output for Enable/Clearfaults signals (one needed per two axis)
- Beckhoff KL4032 2 channel +/-10V output terminal (one needed per two axis)
- Beckhoff KL5101 Incremental encoder terminal with additional digital input for fault monitoring (one needed per axis)
Interfaces to fieldbus
Above I/O terminals should be plugged to fieldbus terminal. For complete list of terminals, see this link. Direct links to various couplers:
